“The greatest difficulty in listening is what listeners will do with the emotions and information that come to their consciousness while other persons are telling their stories.” Those emotions are a challenge! “ So very true. Sounds like your were very aware of these emotions as you care for the family who lost everything in a hurricane and are now sick. Their story had to be overwhelming and you were there for them, with these good listening skills we are learning!
I appreciated your reflection on the innkeeper and how “hospitality in our work–creating the atmosphere and conversation for caring conversations to take place” This is so important to create that caring atmosphere….care and trust…..and we create it with our body language as well as our words. And, ‘the Samaritan gave as he could as he was going”…how that reminds you to look for opportunities along the way. I hope to do that too!
